                  Otometeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo!!, translated to Girlish Love Revolution DS!! (which I will call Love Revo in this review for simplicity) is an otome game first released on PS2 in 2006 and then re-released two years later for the Nintendo DS. It's also released on PC and PSP, but only the DS version was translated (thanks to the altruistic translation team, we are forever grateful). There's also a drama CD and a manga adaption for this game, which actually contributed to my procrastination on this review :p. Unlike the Tokimeki Memorial series, this is just a stand-alone game, which I'm glad about. Not that this was a bad game, it was quite good; it was interesting. This is quite the unique otome game, which was what intrigued me to try it. I played this game without reading any background information, which was fortunate because if I had I probably wouldn't have picked it up so early on (actually, I take that back, I might still be too curious about it to let it go); so when I started playing I was like "Wait, what?!" and literally just rolled on the floor laughing. Well, I won't keep you in suspense any longer, let's get to the point.

Summary:
              You are a fat girl. Yes, you heard (or should I say seen?) me right. Not only are you fat, you are pretty immense, at 100 kg (220 pounds for us stupid Americans who don't use the metric system). You were a pretty girl who used to win all the beauty pageants, but after a whole lot of sweets and doting from your hot onii-chan    "You're really cute, and you look cuter when you're eating!" you've become pretty careless about your self-image and succumbed to food. Until one fateful day, when your family decides to rent rooms, and the No.5, whom are the hottest five boys at school (funny how hottest automatically became bolded...I'll keep it that way). That's when you decided to shape up to acquire the boy of your dreams!!! You spend the rest of the game on your diet plan, becoming the beautiful girl you once were.

 Hitomi Sakuragawa
The main character, played by you. I'm sexy and I know it~

 Ren Ichinose
He's the first of the No.5 (oh by the way, the numbers go by ranking of hotness). Hes the typical perfect, rich, honor student everyone strives to be, and of course he's extremely cold towards you. Okay, fine I'll admit he's really hot, but he's so mean! Still, he has a really interesting (and rather sad) past, and he gradually opens up to you, I absolutely loved his ending, it was so cute!

Masaki Kahara
The second of the No.5. He's generally an easygoing, friendly, happy-go-lucky guy, which is really amusing to watch. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say appearances aren't all what they seem. He didn't impress me that much, but he's an okay character.

Souta (the Shouta) Fukami
Ah, the shouta. I love this guy. No, it's not because I have a thing for younger guys or that I think he's really adorable, but I love him because he accepts me for who I am!! Right from the beginning he's nice to me and defends me from the evil girl bullying me about my weight. He's the third, and he's always encouraging me and even gives me sweets, so cute. He's really energetic and sporty, what a handful. Okay fine, I'll admit I also love the fact that he's the easiest to obtain.

Kennosuke Tachibana
His smile, it's blinding me! The fourth most popular, Kenny is usually a cool, collected dude which is why this scene of him smiling is a rare, rare sight; he likes playing basketball. It's so cute when he blushes, I just want to ruffle his hair! His ending is super adorable too. This guy, this guy people, you need to go through his route. And I'm not usually crazy about the cool, collected types.

Ayato Kamishiro
Ayatoooo-sempaaaiii <3. Marry me maybe? The fifth most popular, for what reason I have no idea why, because he's number one in my books (see what I did there ;)). Oh well, more for me. He's really sweet and nice to everyone and is always sitting somewhere reading a book. Unfortunately, he's rather sickly which is the reason why he doesn't like being close to anyone. He's my favorite out of the whole game, I've spent way too much time on his route...even though his ending is, well, okay awesome.

Kaede Tokita
 A transfer student that also resides in your apartment soon after the game begins. Despite his megane and passion for books, he's actually really airheaded and careless....or is he? Anyways, he might be my second favorite (tied with souta) since he's so adorable with glasses (and I have a huge glasses fetish), but when he takes them off and ties his hair in a ponytail. He.Is.Sexiness. Literally, my mouth dropped when I saw him that way I was like "Woah, where'd that come from?!" I highly recommend his route as well.

Toru Kinomura
Hitomi's childhood friend. This guy just pisses me off. He's her childhood friend who's not even good-looking, so his parameters shouldn't be all that high right? WRONG. He has pretty high standards, I don't even know what he's thinking. I've played his route once, but I was bored to death and wasn't interesting in the least. Sorry Toru, but you're a no-go. (I didn't enter a CG for him because they were spoliers)

Ryutaro Wakatsuki
"S-sensei! What are you doing?!" This guy is the school nurse, and well, let's just say if he was my school nurse, I'd be sick every day. He's probably the most teenage-like out of all the characters, ironically. He's childish and loves to tease, and always has his headphones either on his ears or around his neck. He's a good-hearted guy though and helps Hitomi during her diet. He smokes though, blegh, what a turn-off. Have you ever kissed someone who smoked? It's nasty! (Not speaking out of experience by the way o.o)

Takashi Sakuragawa
Onii-chan!! Yes, this is your helpful older brother who is the one of the causes of your huge weight gain. I'll admit, when i first met him I though "Please let him be an obtainable character! >.<". Yes I know that sounds really messed up, but he's really hot!! And nice!!! And he loves me (he has a HUGE sister complex if you haven't guessed)!!! So imagine my surprise when he appeared to be an obtainable character on my third try playing? Yes, Black Angel was very pleased :3. He does your monthly charts of how well your ranking to the other guys.

And that's all folks!! On to the analysis!

Game Length: It's not all that long. To be exact, it took me 3 hours and 30 minutes to finish one route only skipping most of the introduction (yes I played this game until 3 in the morning...playing the whole route in one shot....two nights in a row, not a very good idea). For a first-timer it'll probably take around an hour more, but no more than that. The reason this game is pretty short is because it takes place over one year (unlike TMGS where it's 3 years)

Target Audience: The same as always. teenage girls. If anything, you need a good sense of humor to play this game. It doesn't have any mature scenes or anything, so it's 13+

Gameplay: Obviously, as I had already mentioned, you spend most of this game trying to lose weight. When you decide to exercise, there will be a selection of exercises you have to choose from, each of them designed specifically for a purpose (full body, arms, legs, face, muscles etc), to fill your parameters. The less hungry you are, the more you will get out of your exercise. However, once you become really hungry, you will have to succumb to the sweets, and make sure they're as low-calorie as possible to prevent any serious weight gain. The only other parameters are general studies, PE, science, and social science, so count on a lot of parameters you have to fill, almost double that of TMGS. Also, at the end of each month, Onii-chan will create a little note about how well (or rather, not well) your parameters are to the guys. Although, exercise isn't the only thing that will help you lose weight, you can also go to the gym and buy health foods for a hefty price, but it'll help you lose weight quickly. On the weekends, you can choose to go on dates or visit the boy of your dreams, and now you can just knock on their doors and ask, which is a nice change of pace. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of options for date place and not much variety in conversation, with the right choices staying consistent through the game, so you don't get to enjoy much interaction with the character until pretty much the end, where all the important events happen. Also, it's hard to know whether you picked the right choice or not by the visuals, there will only be a "ding!" noise when you get the right answer, so keep your volume on! There's a lot of endings though, with multiple bad endings for each guy, a normal ending, and a good ending, so that should keep you entertained. Also, I love how it had a "Quick Save" and a "Quick Load" which I extremely over abused in case something went wrong, it was so handy!

Characters: These characters are super hot obviously ;). There's a reason this game was chosen to be English-patched. To my VERY VERY disappointment, the DS version of this game wasn't voiced, only the PSP and PC version were :(.  Other than that, I don't have any complaints about the characters. They pretty much covered all the areas that a girl's type would be, they have the cold one, the happy one, the shouta, the sexy megane airhead, the cool one, the quiet bookish one (<3), and the childhood friend otaku...yeah pretty much. So I'm loving this cast of characters, and I'm pretty sure you will too. (It was them after all, that made me want to play this game). They even have a mean antagonist girl, which can get pretty heated up and funny.

Story: There isn't an overall plot like the PC games, but like I repeated before, each guy has his own route that you follow and uncover his own story. Some are better than others, but I overall liked each story. And of course, there's the whole main story of you losing weight, so I like that (and trust me, you will SUBMERGE yourself into losing weight, I felt as if I was actually the one losing the weight during this game. A little more, just a little more >.<)

CG/Art: The art is AMAZING~. It's so pretty, bishies everywhere. Did you look at those CGs?! They're so amazing, I just keep scrolling up to look at them (well more like Ayato, looks like someone's getting a new wallpaper <3). The CGs are hands down one of the best. My only complaint about the in-game art is that the characters seem...to light to me. Maybe it's just me because they're so small (since the DS isn't portrait-style like TMGS) but the colors don't seem bright or vivid, but instead blending into the surroundings. Anyways, you get used to it, so A+ on the art.

Music: This game doesn't really have an opening or ending theme song, so I can't really comment. The music during the game is okay I guess. I'm too zoned in the game to pay attention :3.

Difficulty: Did I mentions that this game is the HARDEST otome game I have ever played? The third time was the charm in this game, when I finally managed to capture Souta, did I mention he was the easiest character in the game?! This game is super difficult when it comes to balancing your weight, keeping your parameters high, AND trying to get the guy to fall in love with you ALL at the same time. You need to plan it really well to get a good ending with your guy, and I'll just say hats off to you if you manage to capture Ren *takes off hat and bows*. So I wouldn't recommend this game unless you're an otome game rookie. However, it's the challenge of the difficulty that keeps you coming, so it's refreshing.

Me, of course. I am just a simple sixteen-year old kiddo brat girl otome-gamer. Before thrusting myself in otome games, I was an avid player of MMORPG. At the mere age of six, I was already playing Ragnarok Online. Twisted kid. I upgraded to otaku level afterwards. I studied how to edit manga upon having my first experience on Adobe Photoshop CS2 when I was fourteen. This lead me to be part of various scanlation teams/groups. Then, I discovered the world of otome games.

Eventually, I created my "sasugasugoi" self. Why sasugasugoi? No, I'm not a fan of tongue-twister. For those who don't know, sasuga means "as expected" and sugoi means "cool" or "awesome" in that same aspect. Combining these two, sasuga sugoi, would mean "As expected, it's cool!". I like to think I can keep high standards even when I don't. (People are allowed to dream). I started sasugasugoi.blogspot.com as a web copy of my impressions on games and a reminder of how I did this or that. Then, I remembered my early days as an otome-gamer. I would never survive without those people who made tutorials on how to operate engrish gaming. Viola, presto, this blog came to be. My first otome game was Heart no Kuni no Alice by QuinRose. Yes, downright stupid to not know about fan-translated DS games first. That's how hilarious my first otome game moment was. I learned things the hard way. I first encountered AGTH, ATLAS Fujistu, DAEMON and hook codes before meeting with emulators and easy patching. Still, I'm grateful for that. I would never attain my gaming knowledge without that. Continuing on that road, I played various japanese otome games while keeping in touch with my otaku self.

I met Black Angel and she offered help which I accepted. Now, we're the Dynamic Duo! (Bad pun, I know)

Well, likewise, I am also just a simple introverted 15 year old otaku. I was home-schooled until I was 7, and since I didn't have any siblings at the time, I pretty much just spent my days reading, so as you can guess I'm an avid reader :). I was also an RPG player, but nothing like Ragnarok online :p, I was addicted to Wizards 101 though....:).  I was 10 when I turned into a full-fledged otaku at the library when Fruits Basket caught my eye and I became extremely hooked.          
                                                                                      
 My otome game addiction (as well as general visual novels) didn't come until later when I read and watched The World God Only Knows and became interested "Do they have games like this for girls too?". After a little research I got Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd season, and it just took off from there. That's also around the time where I became a complete computer geek and became interested in computer technology. Anyways, how I came upon this blog. I was just looking for the  Starry Sky ~In Spring~ download so I went onto erogedownload. I scrolled down to the comment section and all I see is "sasugasugoi" "sasugasugoi" "come to my website for download instructions!" and I was like okay why the heck not? I went onto her website and got the game successfully installed, and then I became curious about this sasugasugoi and started going through her website, and all the Atlas and AGTH looked as complicated as can be. I believe she also had her age on the sidebar, so when I saw she was the same age as me (16 at the time) I was like "NO WAY?!?! She's my age and she does all this?!?!" and I decided I wanted to get to know this person a little better, so Ta-da!! (To be honest, it actually took me a few months to muster the courage to add the comment and offer to help, because of my incredible shyness :)). I haven't actually played any non fan-translated otome games yet, so I'm kind of inexperienced compared to sasugasugoi, but I'm hoping I could still help. Gosh it is so hard for me to write without using emoticons why do you have to do this to me sugoi?! And she's saying hers is long *rolls eyes dramatically. Mine's half as interesting and twice as long! I am the epitome of unprofessionalism aren't I?

NDS Emulator Tutorial

Black Angel here! Sorry I haven't been on for a long time ^_^, but I'm here now! Well half the reason is that a bunch of weird stuff kept happening with this tutorial and when it came to patching the DS rom after I finished writing all the instructions and doing the screenshots I was like "Wait a minute...why don't I just give them the rom already patched in English?!?!" So yes, as you can tell I'm a pretty slow person :P. This tutorial is pretty simple, so let's get to it! This game is a Nintendo DS game, so to play it you're either going to need to install an NDS emulator on your PC (as I will now show) or *cough cough put it on your cough flashcart *cough cough. XDD.


Download: No$GBA emulator with No$Zoomer

1. Download No$GBA/No$Zoomer in the download links above.

 2. Extract each folder to the Desktop. Enter the No$Zoomer folder and click the No$Zoomer button (the application file) and it will say "Open" in the blue tab above. Go to the No$Zoomer folder if you aren't already on it and open the No$GBA.exe file. After that another window will open and the blue tab will say "Insert Cartridge". Open the rom. (I'm using TMGS2 for this tutorial)

5.  If the game is in the normal landscape view, you're done! However, if you need it to be in portait view,  all you have to do is click "View" which will be the second option from the left and go to "Rotate". Choose 270 degrees.

6. Enjoy!!

Oh my god...such a short tutorial and it took me quite the number of hours to figure out...trial and error is so tedious >.<. I'll probably ask Sasuga Sugoi if I can turn this into a general NDS emulator tutorial so you can just go to that for every NDS otome game, and there are quite a nice few ^_^. Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season

Hello girls! (and guys...?) Black Angel with you! Sorry it took me so long to post this, I was planning on posting this on Sunday, but school projects got in the way. Yes, I'm a high-schooler too, believe it or not! By the way, I've decided to keep things consistent, for my sake as well as yours, and have decided to post my stuff every Sunday. I'll try following this schedule as best as I can, and if things don't work out like this time, I'll just post it as soon as I can :). So let's get to it!

              Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season (also known as 2nd Kiss) is a Nintendo DS game released by Konami! Although it's the second game in the Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side series, the storyline   has nothing to do with the first game and you could play it perfectly without playing the first game, which is how I actually played it. The only relation is that one of the guys in this game is a cousin of a guy in the first game, which isn't that important. This game was only released in Japan, but an English patch has been released, yay! The reason that I picked to do a review and installation tutorial for this game first is because I simply enjoyed this game more than the first one ^.^. I found the characters a lot funner and the gameplay a lot smoother. Of course, this game is fully voiced! There is also a third game in the series, but the English patch is still in the making. I don't even need to explain my excitement for the release of the TMGS 3 English patch when it comes out because it looks amazing!!! It'll probably take a while though since it's extremely text heavy *sigh. I need to learn Japanese...Don't worry though, I will eventually release a review/tutorial for the first game, especially if I see a lot of demand for it. Which means you need to comment!!!! Don't be shy!! (Thank you people who made these Tokimeki Memorial patches!!)

SUMMARY:
             Typical, typical shojo manga story. You're the new girl in town and rushing to hurry to school. Unfortunately, (well, not really :P) you're lost! So you decide to stop by somewhere close and ask for directions. You see a cafe and meet a handsome, but also rude waiter. He gives you the directions and you find you way to school. Once you get there, you realize the waiter you met before is actually a student, and in the same class too!! Keep it a secret though, or else who knows what he'll do to you? The story continues through your three years of high school in which you meet friends and possible significant others! The story takes place in a modern-day setting at the beach coast, which has a significance in the story.

Saeki Teru
CV: Morita Masakazu (Ichigo from Bleach <3. That voice actor sure is popular...) (He was the seiyuu for Yo in the Yo-Jin-Bo, as well. -sasugasugoi)
The "main character". He is the first person you meet and is one of the hardest guys to get. He has a split personality: one at school where he's super nice, popular, smart, and kind, and another in which he's more of a rude,stoic character. This, of course, is the side which he shows to you. He has a gentler side on the inside though, once you get to know him, and he's very passionate about the ocean. All in all, I find him extremely heartwarming.

CV: Morikawa Toshiyuki (Tyki from D. Gray-man, Naraku from Inuyasha, and Conrad from Kyo Kara Maoh!)
Teacher, teacher...well he's your homeroom and Chemistry teacher XD. Only in a game can a hot guy be your homeroom teacher for three years straight...(I've had one for two years though :p.). Even though he's a supposed young genius with an IQ of 200, he's a ditzy airhead who's always forgetting things. I don't know about you guys, but his ditziness just doesn't mix with me...I don't know, I just don't like ditzy guys they annoy me :p. But well, everyone's got their own tastes right? And I know this guy has a LOT of fans. Maybe I'm just weird...

Hikami Itaru
CV: Suzuki Chihiro (Soichiro from Kare Kano, Kouta in Elfen Lied)
Just by looking at his appearance I can already tell he is the student council president; and he is!! He's an extremely strict, studious student who is extremely intelligent and focused on making the school a better place where the rules are enforced. He even marked me late when I was only 15 seconds late!! I kind of really like his passion, it's hard to find that nowadays *sigh. I also feel like I'm kind of dating Tsubaki from Sket Dance through him, they're so alike! (Even though I think Tsubaki is much much cuter in personality and looks :). They should make a Sket Dance dating sim!! Who's with me??" (I AM~! <3 - sasugasugoi)



Hariya Kounoshin
CV: Suzumura Kenichi (Hikaru from OHSHC! Lavi from D.Gray-man!Isumi from Hikaru no Go! Also, Tsubasa from Starry Sky ~In Winter~ , and Masato from UtaPri!)
What can I say, I love his character. My favorite guy here, and maybe even my favorite in all of the games I've played (wait scratch all that..there IS a guy here I like more than him...but he's a secret character ;)). He's a stylish musician that has a cocky attitude. Oh, and his name isn't "Hariya", you have to call him "Harry" cuz apparently Harry is cooler... He has a type of "tsundere character". He's kind of cold to you at first, but when you two get close, he gets super cute and flustered <3. Adorable~.

Christopher Weatherfield
CV: Kanbara Daichi (This is his first big break ^.^)
Oh Chris...The happy-go-lucky English transfer student.Chris is the first guy I captured in this game. Why? Because he's the easiest :). He gets your affection really fast, and he's SUCH a flirt, always saying sweet nothings. So how can I help but NOT say "Okay, fine Chris you win, I'll capture you...". Not to mention he was also my first accidental kiss (more on that later). He's very artsy and creative, being in the arts club. You also figure out later (Don't want to spoil anything) that he's LOADED. ;)



Amachi Shouta
CV: Makoto Naruse (Tsubasa from Gakuen Alice)
Your kohai, you meet him when you enter your second year. You help him on his way to school, and ever since he has a lot of respect  and admiration for you! He's extremely shota-like, with a cute, bubbly personality, but who knows, maybe he has a serious interior? Hmm, well, I guess you'll have to play the game to figure out won't you? ;). He's also extremely popular with the younger girls.  Anyways, I think he's really cute when he looks at you with those big, puppy-dog eyes...

Komori Taku
CV: Matsubara Daisuke
Komori!!! I can't tell you how much I love him <3. Sadly, he only appears at the beginning of your third year. He doesn't come to school much and usually stays at home. He doesn't talk much and is VERY very shy. But he's SOOO CUUUTE <3. Well, that's pretty much it about him :). But you definitely have to get his ending, it's so touching :'). Yeah, I can't get over this guy...









That's it for the guys!!! There are more secret characters though, or guys that you can only see if you have special parameters, but I'm not going to spoil it for you :P (by the way, the secret character that I was talking about before that was my favorite guy was Akagi Kazuyuki, he's one of the more realistic guys that you actually MIGHT find in real life. He is my ultimate guy, and if I'm ever falling in love in real life, it's going to be with someone like him. :p). So now for the girls!! Yes, there are actually girls in this game. Can you date them? No, but you can be friends with them :). Or enemies...more on that later.

Nishimoto Haruhi
CV: Ai Maede (Chihiro in Persona 4)
A cheerful, energetic, outgoing girl that's in the Cheerleader club. She loves fashion and hanging out with her increases your Style. She harbors a crush on Harry (NO! my Harry!!! DX)

Mizushima Hisoka
CV: Minaguchi Yuko (Koko in Clannad, Nene in Loveplus)
A very feminine, lady-like girl. She's very well-mannered and reminds me of the classic Japanese woman; lots of guys have crushes on her. She's in Band and hanging out with her increases your Charm. She has a crush on Chris (hard to believe O.o)

 Onoda Chiyumi
CV: Kozakura Etsuko (Natto in Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clain)
A very studious, strict student that is on the Student Council. She is very polite and nice though, and I find her seriousness extremely cute XD. Hanging out with her increases your intelligence and she crushes on Hikami (No brainer! Those two were practically MADE for each other. They make a cute couple (*.*) )

Todou Tatsuko
CV:  Shindou Naomi
She is also a huge fan of the guys and the girls too! She has a cool personality and works at a gas station. She seems a little scary at first, but she becomes nicer as you get to know her.







That's it for the characters! There's so many...as you can see, this is a very thought out game :). I like.

Game Length: The actual story is medium, but if you're planning on getting all the endings, it's EXTREMELY long. So have fun :)

Target Audience: Girls. I honestly can't see any guys playing this game. I mean if they do, that's so cool XD. But this is a very fan-servicey game with close to no plot other than character development, so I'm gonna play safe and say it's an extreme otome game. No ero-content, so it's 13+.

Gameplay: This game is much unlike other otome games is that it doesn't focus on choices you make with your characters, it's very real life-simulated. You choose to do activities, such as Style,Charm, Intelligence, Sports, etc. to raise your "parameters". Each guy has a different set of parameters and you have to reach those parameters to end up with the guy of your choice. You can also get a job, preferably with the guy you want if he has a job, and earn money. With this money you can buy clothes to impress your guy and gifts! You also need to initiate a relationship to get your guy. With most guys. upon meeting them you'll obtain their phone number and then you'll have to call them for a date. On these dates there ARE choices, one choice per date. The choices you pick will boost or drop your love meter, but not that badly, just going on a lot of dates is enough to raise the love meter. Also, there's skinship, which is a WHOLE new different thing, took me quite a while to get the hang of it. On your dates, if you poke him on certain parts of his body (O.o), or slide and rub your stylus onto him, it'll mean different things and also raise the love meter. For example, sliding your stylus across his eyes will indicate that you're staring at his eyes. Or a poke at his hand/arm will cause you to hold hands or link arms with him. Isn't that totally adorable <3? There are MANY different endings to this game, with endings, special, endings, double-guy endings, friend endings...I don't want to get into a whole lot of detail because I'm planning to add a walkthrough to this review, because this game NEEDS a walkthrough, playing it without a walkthrough is REALLY hard. At least to know the parameters, which is how I use it. Also, if you're aiming for a guy that your girlfriend has a crush on, she could become your rival, which can be quite scary... Overall, I liked the gameplay of this game, it was something new. At first, I admit, I thought it was boring. But then afterwards when i figured out everything I was like OOOOH!! I get it now!! Yes, unlike you lucky guys, there was no review or walkthrough so I was totally lost in the beginning of this game :p. After, I got the hang of it, I spent countless hours playing it...I highly recommend this game.

Characters: The characters in this game is more than plentiful, as you can see. I love these characters, I really do love every one, there is no character in this game that I hate, girls or guys. It was really fun getting to know each one and their opinions on certain things. The special scenes with CGs  were AMAZING, I almost felt like crying in them. There's so much variety in this game, which I really like! These characters really speak for themselves, if it wasn't for the different gameplay I would recommend it to any otome game beginner. But yes, the characters weren't boring at all, I didn't feel like strangling anyone at any point haha. Okay fine, maybe there is one guy...but I'm sure you'll figure out who ;).

Story: Like I said before, there is little to a main story or plot, unlike Yo-Jin-Bo or Chaos; Head, but rather it just matters on which guy you aim for, and each of them have their own little drama. But then again, this is supposed to be a realistic-fiction in the modern times, and hopefully for the sake of our main character it doesn't turn into a "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". I'd have to say each character's story is pretty engaging. I mean, it's not just like "Oooh, this guy's cute, let's keep going on a bunch of dates and get married at the end!". No, there IS a storyline, and hopefully you'll help the guy get past it :).

CG/Art:  The art is pretty cool. I mean, it's not like a PC or PSP game where you can make the CGs your wallpaper or something cool like that, which is pretty much the reason why I like these special pictures so much, but it's still nice to look through the gallery once in a while. This game has an anime-style art with a bit of a realistic touch to it, it's not totally bishonen art with sparkles all over LOL XD. I like the art, simple and sweet~

Music: The music is nice, it doesn't get annoying and it flows well with the story. Personally, I don't really mind or give a lot of attention to the music much, except for when there's an opening or ending theme song.

Difficulty: The game isn't too hard to get the special endings and normal endings for the most part, you just need to make sure your parameters are high and you go on enough dates with him. The choices aren't too hard for the most part, unless you're watching a movie or performance, then it's just a guess and check thing which can get kind of annoying, especially if I forgot to save right before the date. Then again, choices aren't too important and you can always go on another date to make up for it. If you're the type of perfectionist that needs the PERFECT answer to every question, just don't forget to save~

Always Remember Me

     Black Angel with you once more, bringing you the review for Always Remember Me!!! I finally got off my lazy bum and decided to finish this before school really starts.This game is the otome version of The Vow, so if you've seen that movie and had it pull at your cheesy heartstrings, this one's for you!

   Summary:     
         Always Remember Me is an English otome game published by Winter Wolves. The story starts out with the heroine (you) and her boyfriend Aaron on the beach, discussing Aaron's father's dislike of their relationship. As they share a kiss and get into Aaron's motorcycle, ready to go get some ice cream, a speeding car crashes into the motorcycle at full force! Aaron shields our redhead from harm, unfortunately absorbing most of the impact. You wake  up a few hours later in the hospital,  extremely worried about your beloved boyfriend. You're then told that fortunately he hasn't suffered any physical injuries, but instead had gotten short-term amnesia, meaning that he's totally forgotten about you! Will you try to regain your old boyfriend's love? Or will you start afresh and look for a new one? It's your choice!

Characters:

Amarantha Fitch

The tragic heroine, also known as "You". Her nickname is Amy. She's interested in writing and is your average college student, nothing special about her. She works part-time in an ice-cream shop.

Aaron Cowen

Amy's boyfriend that got hit by a speeding car while protecting you, and now has short-term amnesia and is staying at the hospital. He doesn't remember you at all! *sniff sniff. He's a super nice and caring guy, the model boyfriend.

Eddy

The doctor who's taking care of Aaron. He's kind of  a stiff person and a workaholic, but he's also a really nice and romantic guy. He gets really cutely awkward in certain situations, which I think is plain adorable.

Lawrence

Oh Lawrence~. He's a shy, sweet kid who works with you at the ice cream shop. He's easily flustered and a bit of an airhead. He cares about you a lot, and I consider him to be the "younger brother" type. I have a glasses fetish so I really love this character ///.///

Hugh

Hugh, Hugh, Hugh....because there HAS to be a rock star in every modern-times otome game. Seriously, it's a must. He has a wicked sense of style and even runs a clothes store at the mall. He's pretty ambitious and serious about his goals, which is always admirable in a guy. He wants to become a fashion designer.  He's your typical, immature bad-boy and with his rebel blue hair he reminds me of Kaito (for you vocaloid fans).



Game length: Long.

Target Audience: Chicks, obviously, I don't think this visual novel has anything that guys might like... it's not a hentai game in any shape, way, or form, so yaaay! Feel free to play to your heart's content!

Gameplay: In general, there are two personal stats you can raise, Morale and Energy. As long as you keep them up you should be fine. You can keep Morale and Energy up by doing different activities in different places, just have fun with it! For the guys, you either raise or lower their love meter by picking the right choices and going to the right places, and if their love meter is high, you get a good ending with them! There's also the special endings. You can get special endings by having a specific meter high along with the specific guy. For example, you have to raise Romance for Aaron, Creativity for Hugh, Discipline for Eddy, and Culture for Lawrence! You can raise these bars also by doing specific activities. So, go crazy with it! You can also get money by working at the ice cream shop and buy stuff! So all in all, you can have a total of 9 different endings (don't ask what the 9th ending is, that's a secret ;) ). By the way, don't forget to check out the Silly Stuff in the Endings section! Totally very funny stuff, I laughed so hard....

Characters: The characters are actually really deep. I didn't expect it and thought they were pretty average in the beginning, but each ending was really nice. I'm the kind of person that can't say anything really bad about something unless it's REALLY bad, so maybe I'm not the best reviewer, but I liked the simplicity of the characters of this game. I mean, none of them really made me laugh out loud or anything, but the game is supposed to be a bit angsty so it's excusable. It's to be expected since this isn't a Japanese game and the company isn't really some big-shot, but there's absolutely NO character voice whatsoever, so that's kind of disappointing TT.TT.

Story: The story is unique and beautiful. When I first saw the trailer for The Vow, I was like "Oh my god, they took that from Always Remember Me!!!! Except the gender roles are switched!".  But yes, the story was thoroughly entertaining. Even the first five minutes, when Aaron got crashed by the car and forgot Amy, I was close to crying myself (because I'm the BIGGEST crybaby when it comes to movies). I don't want to spoil anything, but the endings are REALLY sweet. I give the story for this game an A+.

CG/Art: Well, first let's state the obvious, this game is NOT a Japanese game translated to English, this is a game published by an English company in English. Therefore, the art has more of an American feel then the usual Japanese anime style, so that's a bit of a disappointment. For me at least, because I'm a true otaku through and through. However, for an American style art, it wasn't bad at all. When I first think "American cartoon" I immediately facepalm, but this art isn't half-bad, it's good! It's mostly soft tones that blend in together and...just once you get to the art, you'll like it, trust me on this once. CGs are really nice too!! <3

Music: I'm not going to lie, but at first the introduction song kind of annoyed me a bit. After I heard it a few times, I actually kind of like it though. The music throughout the game isn't bad either, it flows with the story line. (I like the background music at the disco place. Hey, I'm sasugasugoi :3 )

Difficulty: It's not that hard. Well okay, the choices DID stump me a bit. Good job for the choices on this game. Usually choices are easy to guess but for this game it's unpredictable, thank God that it's not timed. (Screw Two-Five for thinking of that crap in Yo-Jin-Bo. Nice game, nevertheless) Well, if you really want a good ending and don't want to keep repeating the game, you can save after each choice just in case! Keeping stats up isn't difficult though, not anything like Tokimeki Memorial, that one's a nightmare >.<.

This game doesn't have much of an opening, so no video this time! If you have money, PLEEEEASE pretty please purchase this game, it'll only make the publishers want to make more! It's only 20 bucks, and they even have a demo for you to try! You can purchase the game at

Yo-Jin-Bo Installation Tutorial

Black Angel again! Here's how to easily install Yo-Jin-Bo (with screenshots!). Yo-Jin-Bo works on both Windows and Mac, so here's the Windows tutorial.

So, how to install and download! Well, lucky for you, this doesn't need English patches since it's already in English! So installation is nice and easy, no need to worry about regions and stuff like that. I'm gonna explain it nice and easy in four easy steps with screenshots! so you should get it. Don't forget to click on the image to make it super big!!!!

NOTE: If you download the BIN and CUE files from the alternate download link, you can skip to step 3.

1. Download all the files in the link. Don't worry about viruses, I uploaded these myself. I might be good with computers, but I have no idea how to even put a virus on a file. Nor do I want to. After downloading all of them, make a folder and put all of the downloaded files in there. So it should look something like this...

2.  Right-click "Yo-Jin-Bo.part 1.rar" and click extract here. You must have Win-rar, 7 zip, or some other program similar to these to do this. If you need help with this, consult the Extraction tutorial on this blog. After you do that, you should have a .BIN file and a .CUE file in the folder. Now if you want, you can delete all those pesky parts.

                            

      

     

 3.  For this step, you must have Daemon Tools. If you don't have it or are new to it, download it and consult the Daemon Tools Tutorial on this blog. Now, go to Daemon Tools and add the .BIN file to the program, not the .CUE. You will not be able to see the .BIN file at first, so when you add the file you must change whatever is in the "Files of Type" to "All Files". Once you have added the .BIN file, mount it. After you mount it, you should immediately be prompted to install the game.

Yo-Jin-Bo

Hello, Black Angel here! I know, you're all so disappointed that it's not sasugasugoi  because she's so much more awesomer than me, but I'm not bad! Anyways, this is my start of being her co-author, so I'll be posting a review for Yo-Jin-Bo, I'll try to make it as spoiler-free as possible. I hope you enjoy it!

          Yo-Jin-Bo was published by the company Two-Five and was actually released in English in North America by the Hirameki International Group, which sadly went bankrupt and withdrew from game production. So yaaay~ no dealing with English patches(for all the people out there who work on English patches, big THANK YOU!). There has been a manga adaption of Yo-Jin-Bo as well as a PS2 game that has been only released in Japan which included two characters (Fuuma Kasumimaru and Harumoto Ohno) that you couldn't capture in the PC version. The title is actually a pun sadly lost in the English language, for Yo-Jin-Bo literally means "Bodyguards" and it's also the names of your three new main bodyguards: Yo, Jin, and Bo!

SUMMARY:

           You play as average school girl Sayori who's part of the history club. On an archaeological dig, you slip into a hole and find a shiny, pretty green pendant which you decide to take home with you. As you get ready to go to bed, you see a faded silhouette of a pretty kimono-wearing girl emitting from the pendant. She then asks for your help and you're slipped into a dream and find out that the girl is Princess Hatsuhime and that you've switched bodies with her! After that, you're just whisked into the adventure of samurais and ninjas, of course, all of whom are hot guys ;).

CHARACTERS:

 Sayori

In simple words, you. They didn't even give her enough thought to give her a last name. Tsk tsk.

 Hatsuhime

CV: Nami Kurokawa

The beautiful princess whom you take place of. She's a lively, spunky, tomboyish girl who speaks her mind and isn't your typical goody-good princess; I almost fell in love with her as much as the guys did LOL.

Tsukuba Muneshige

CV: Jurota Kosugi (Asuba from Naruto! and a bunch of  other awesome roles)

Hatsuhime's personal bodyguard ever since they were young. He's also Hatsuhime's first love. He's kind and extremely loyal and protective of Hatsuhime, and (according to the crew at least) says really bad jokes. I loved his Mickey Mouse impersonation though!

Yozaburou Shiranui

CV: Masakuza Morita (Ichigo from Bleach! <3)

His nickname is Yo and he's part of the Yo-Jin-Bo trio. He really hates being treated like a kid despite him being the youngest. He loves making fun of Jin and is super cute when he gets all strung-up!

Jinnosuke Murasame

CV: Hiroki Takahashi (Eiji Kikumaru from PoT! and Katsuya (Joey) from Yu-Gi-Oh!)

His nickname is Jin and he's also part of the Yo-Jin-Bo trio, as well as my personal favorite <3. His friends always tease him and he's a fiery, aggressive kind of guy (made obvious by his ridiculously red hair) but also has a really soft, kind, funny side to him. He has really bad luck with girls though (which obviously changes when he bumps into you at the festival <3).

Tainojo Tsubaki

CV: Hideo Ishikawa (Itachi Uchiha from Naruto!! Need I say anymore? Well, he's also Jushiro Ukitake from Bleach)

They call him Bo because of the kanji that spell out his name, and he's the last of the trio. He's a bit of an androgynous character because of his hair and clothes and is even hit on by transsexuals, which I find hilarious. He's an eccentric but elegant character. 

Ittousai Tatsunami

CV: Hideki Ogihara

This guy, as Mon-Mon describes him, is a "glasses-wearing sociopath". And that's what I thought at first too, just a creepy guy who wears bandages that look like S&M bondage tape. But hey, who doesn't love a creepy hot guy? And once you get to know him, maybe you won't think he's so creepy after all. Besides, he's a GREAT kisser, totally hot CG scenes right there. He and Jin don't get along at all though, two completely opposite sides of the pole.

 Monzan Kadokura

CV: Tetsu Inada (Kurogane from Tsubasa Chronicles. He's hotness~)

He calls himself Mon-mon, probably to look cute to get girls. He's another one of those perverted monks, because we just couldn't get enough of Miroku from Inuyasha, could we?  He's a nice guy though, with a good heart. And he's really funny.

Harumoto Ohno

CV: Mitsuaki Madono (Kon from Bleach, kind of surprising O.o. Joker from Flame of Recca)

The bad guy of the game who's out to kill you. As I said before, he's one of the two characters you can get in the PS2 version but not the PC version. I probably wouldn't play his route anyhow, but am still curious about his route so I might skim his part on Youtube.

Fuuma Kasumimaru

CV: Kisho Taniyama (As well as a Seiyu, he's part of a band. Pretty sweet huh? He's Len from La Corda D'Oro, Yahiro from Special A, and Natsuki from UtaPri <3)

This guy isn't really much of an important character in the game, but it's a real SHAME that you can't capture him in the PC version, because I'm sure just like Kakashi under that mask is a really hot face. I'm definitely looking up his route on Youtube...

Game Length: Pretty Long

Target Audience: Girls (obviously) but I know guys who also played this game and enjoyed the storyline. I mean, I play dating sims for guys why can't they play dating sims for girls? (Is it weird that i play guy-targeted dating sims? O.o). This isn't a hentai game, so I guess anyone could play it.

Gameplay: What I kind of love about this game is that the time to make the different choices is limited, so if you're playing with a walkthrough, make sure to have it beforehand! You have about ten seconds to choose options, and every time I come across a choice, no matter how many times I've played the game, my heart always starts beating really fast and I get an adrenaline rush, waiting until the last second  to purposely make it dramatic. I know that makes me seem silly, but it's true! There's a LOT of endings for this game. 6 good endings, one for each guy, 6 "sad" endings, also one for each guy, and there's a couple of bad endings. To fully complete the game, you must complete all 12 good and sad endings. You even get a special bonus chapter once you finish the game!

Characters: The characters were amazing, hands down. They were extremely interactive and funny, I was always laughing and giggling at something someone said. Other than the funniness, each character has a different personality of his/her own, and I loved getting to know them and their serious side. I know a lot of otome games where the characters were dull and just there, like the game creators just made good-looking guys with stereotypical personalities, but the characters in this game were totally unique and enjoyable.

Story: The story was great in itself, who doesn't love a good feudal Japan story filled with samurai and ninja? You could argue that it wasn't that original or creative, but the characters more than make up for it. So if you played Hakuoki and was looking for something a bit similar, this is definitely the game for you. I do wonder though, what baffles my mind, is all the modern references they make during the game. Like, this game is supposed to be set in the 1850s, yet they're talking about Pokemon, games, and Mickey Mouse. Like...say what? Haha, I guess this is what makes the game so funny though, it doesn't really bother me. 

CG/Art: The art of the game itself I loved. I especially loved how next to the writing of the story it would show each person's expression and how there were a lot of different expressions for each guy, and each expression matched perfectly with the lines they were speaking. The CGs you collect are sometimes cute, sometimes funny, and sometimes REALLY HOT. Especially in the cases of Yo and Ittosai. One point I didn't like though was that you couldn't download any CGs, which i always like doing when I play otome games. But whatever, you could always just save the image.

Music: Do I really need to say anything for this? I ADORE the opening song and have it on my favorites list on Youtube. The music during the story wasn't annoying or bothering and suited the story nicely, not that I pay much attention to the music because the story just sucks you in and is so captivating.

Difficulty: It's not that bad, the choices are sometimes a bit obvious but what makes this game difficult is that if you don't choose the perfect choices for each choice you have for a character, you can't get a good ending. I was close to pulling my hair out when I figured out I missed Jin's good ending by one choice. Also, if you choose too many bad choices or if you're indecisive with your guys, you could *gulp die. And that's a bad ending, in case you couldn't figure it out. So difficulty isn't that bad as in you don't need specific parameters like with other otome games, but it's not so easy as in all you need to do is make sure your love meter is high.
